on that riptide thing you say its what you imagine california to be like. what are some other songs that describe places you've never been?

OOH this is cool hmmmm

Off to the Races by Lana Del Ray makes me think of classic Hollywood (not sure exactly what era though, maybe the 20’s?) but also the Kentucky Derby at the same time, it has a really cool twisted vibe and idk it’s just really cool

Smother by Daughter sounds like standing in a misty swamp or something with soft grays and off-whites and hints of olive green

Basically any by Sea Wolf (You’re a Wolf, Black Leaf Falls, Middle Distance Runner, Neutral Ground) make me think of what it’s like in the New England area during the fall, but when it’s raining. Or I guess Washington (Seattle?) and Oregon during the fall as well. Really just anywhere that’s cool, damp, smells like rain, and has wet leaves and overcast skies.

The Story I Heard by Blind Pilot (and their other songs too I guess) is like that time of the year when the snow has melted and the sun is out but it’s really cold out and being out in the country somewhere and riding your bike but the wind goes right through your jacket and everything smells like melting ice and your nose gets runny but it feels so good to be outside (not a place but oh well!)

We’re Going To Be Friends by The White Stripes is what I would imagine playing in the background of a kid (like grade school or middle school) commuting to school in a big city. Like a montage thing or like the opening credits to a movie, right? I have no idea what going to school in a big city is like sooo

A Particularly Long Elevator Shaft by Analog Rebellion- just bus rides and public transportation in foreign countires in cities I have no idea why

Ok so that’s kinda a lot sorry but really you should know that I spend 99% of my music listening time actually playing out scenes with characters that go EXACTLY with the music and it’s becoming an obsession and maybe even a problem because I have such intricate plot lines and visuals laid out for single songs but I don’t do anything to make them real and hnnnggggggggggggghhh

Sorry for that little rant, thank you for the awesome ask!

Ax squared plus bx
plus c equals
zero at 0, 1, or 2 real values of x.
This we know;
roots are zero
and there will always be a root,
even if it exists beyond the
quadrants
from negative to positive infinity

and infinity is as small as it is expansive
a size entirely boundless
that’s the crux of it all, isn’t it?
how something so huge can be so minuscule
but everything ever encompassed by it
is all that ever has and ever will be

so infinity is fluid
it takes the shape of the container holding it
which, it just so happens,
also contains you, at
this moment

now is not everything, but everything is now
this is the form that we see the universe in
as we speak, it expands
the everything increases in size
is this, too boundless?
only time, the fleeting, fickle thing
can reveal

maybe the infinite measure of space finds a limit
comes crashing in on itself
smaller but equal but not but constantly in flux
yes and no and perhaps
and 99% confidence intervals
because we only think we can make predictions so vast

humans think we are the only creatures
aware of our own mortality
"live each day like it’s your last!
you never know what could happen!
life is short!”
yet life is long
billions of years, still here

all things end, except for what doesn’t
here are a few of the cycles in nature:
-phosphorus (ATP, the nucleic acids, pH buffers, cell membranes)
is also found in streams and stones
-nitrogen (the amino and nucleic acids)
from the air to plants to decay and back
-carbon (sugars/starches, cell cytoskeletons, very nearly every organic molecule)
as a cell to the air
-oxygen (to hold electrons, water)
carbon’s reflection
you and i will die, yes, but we will live on
a new pattern to decode

do you know what the most fascinating implication of e+mc^2 is?
it isn’t fission
it isn’t fusion
it isn’t the bomb
it isn’t our sun
it is that energy can equal mass
even that constant— conservation of matter— is in flux

so yes, you are stardust
(your mass had to come from somewhere)
but you are also an explosion waiting in the rafters
and yes, your blood runs red with the iron that killed a star
(even nuclear, celestial forges have a limit)
but before you were any of that
you were energy

You are light,
compressed into a human body
for as long as this lasts.
